Carrigan Grace is here!

August 30, 2010

Every time I have the opportunity to photograph a newborn, I am always amazed at God’s newest little creation. Little Miss Carrigan is the daughter of my friends, Mike and Jena. Mike is a pastor at our church and his lovely wife, Jena, has become a dear friend. I have photographed this precious family before, and so enjoyed capturing their newest addition. Carrigan is such a beautiful little baby girl and was so great for us last Friday. She was exactly two weeks old and adorable. Her big brothers just loved on her, too, and were so sweet. Thanks for allowing me into your home to photograph your sweet Carrigan. She is truly a picture of God’s grace! :)

A couple quick ones of Carrigan’s big brothers, too…

And, now, for Carrigan’s moment! Love these!!

Carrigan woke up in the middle of her session and kept looking straight at me. I love these precious eyes open portraits!

And, finally, asleep again!

Joey is here!

August 2, 2010

I had the fun task on Saturday to head out to meet little Joey! Those of you who follow my business know that I take a short hiatus from my shooting schedule during the month of July; however, I do make exceptions for newborns of previous clients and special friends. Joey’s mom and I used to work together and we also attend church together. His Mom and Dad have been beyond excited to meet him and it is such a joy to see their love for him. Abby and Michael, I am overjoyed for you with the gift of this beautiful little boy. God has blessed you greatly and it was an honor to spend some time photographing him for you! I hope you enjoy your sneak peak!

You know how much I love this little blue hat! Babies just look so adorable in hats! Love it!

And, finally, a piece of history on this photograph. This bassinet is a family heirloom in which all babies on Mom’s side of the family have slept in, including Joey’s Mom as well as his Grandfather. Isn’t that neat?

Welcome Sweet Reese!

July 9, 2010

Little Miss Reese is obviously going to be a fun little girl to have around! She was born last week…FOUR weeks early and took all of us by surprise! God is good, though, and she came out a little fighter and didn’t have any problems after the birth at all. When I photographed her at 11 days she was only around 5 lbs 5 oz…teeny, teeny, tiny and ohhh so adorable. We had such a great time with her and Reese’s sweet mom so enjoyed bringing out the little gifts that she had purchased for her photo session. The little tutu, hat, and bloomers all were huge on her tiny frame but a little nip and tuck and we made it work like a charm! I have photographed Reese’s big sister for several years and it is so fun to now include Reese as a part of this precious family. Congratulations to all of you on your new baby sister and daughter…she is simply a precious little doll!

You all know by now that I really love both color and black & white images and usually find some of each that I love from every session. However, Reese’s session was just sooo pink! Everything was rosy and sweet and I just had to use the color on all them. Enjoy!

Welcome sweet Zoe!

June 29, 2010

Another beautiful baby girl has joined the world! And what a sweet family she is so blessed to have. There are some families that just kinda “oooze” love! This is one of those. You spend just a few minutes with this group and you can feel the love that these parents have for each other and their children. We spent some time in their home the other day and captured some sweet memories for them of Zoe’s first days. I really enjoyed my time with Zoe’s family and loved photographing her. Here’s today’s look at joy….

This is a chair that belongs to Zoe’s Daddy that he was rocked in as a baby! Love that they incorporated this into the shoot!

Woo-hoo! A sweet newborn smile…you know I LOVE these!

Love how Zoe is holding her Daddy’s hand in this one!

Sweet newborns…ahh, soo adorable. I could just shoot newborn sessions every.single.day and never tire of them! I love it! Little Bryant was no exception. His mommy told me that she had been talking to him for several days about how he needed to be good and behave for me when I came to take his photos. He obviously is going to be a very well behaved little boy! Russell and Heather, you’ve done good and God has granted you with an amazing gift! Bryant is gorgeous! Congratulations!

Bryant’s nursery was decorated in Sock Monkey decor. It was beyond cute! :)

And, the icing on the cake is below. All you moms and dads and photographers out there know that it is very rare to catch a little newborn smile. This day, I just happened to be there at just the right second to capture this little gem! Loooove it!

Chace is One!

May 10, 2010

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly time passes by. I have so enjoyed getting to know Chace and his wonderful parents over this past year. Chace is one of our fabulous Little Gifts Newborn Club babies. Things I love about Chace: his smile, the quiet way he takes in the world, the way he makes me work to get what I want! He is such a cute little guy. I can hardly believe he has gone from this…

To this handsome fellow in just a few short months time. Thanks, Chace, for letting me share your first year. You are one handsome guy! You make me smile!

And this one just melts my heart for some reason. Can’t really pinpoint why…I just know it speaks to my heart! :)

Will and His Sisters

April 27, 2010

Will already knows how to handle life with two big sisters…just stay calm and relax through it! Little Will was a champ at his Newborn Session last week and let us photograph him over and over! This little “surprise” in the lives of this sweet family is already a clear gift from the Lord. He already brings such joy into their lives. I loved my time spent photographing Will on his own as well as the interactions with his big sisters. Welcome to the world, sweet baby! I bet you will never miss a day without a hug from these beautiful girls in your life!

Remember these beautiful ladies from the Mini Sessions?

Well, they’ve just become big sisters! Little Adam Stephen was welcomed into the world about a week after this photo was taken. It was such fun to visit their home and have them share with me and show off their new little brother. Sweet Adam Stephen was such a GREAT baby to photograph. That’s why I call him a Rock-star. Just let me play and pose to my heart’s content. Plus, check out this hair! How could he not be a Rock-star with those locks?

He’s just beautiful! Congratulations to Adam, Julie, Isabel and Iris on the new addition to the family!

This last one is the exact same shot. I just simply couldn’t decide color or b/w…so, I shared both! :)

Don’t you just love it?

February 11, 2010

Abby. She was such a gem for me yesterday. She was so alert and looked right into my camera which is a  rare thing for a baby only 7 days old! And, then, like a little princess she fell fast asleep and allowed us to pose her to our heart’s content.

It was such joy listening to the “oooh’s and ahhh’s” of Abby’s Mom, Dad and Grandma. They were so proud of her and it wasn’t hard to see that they were quite enamored with this little treasure. She’s the first for this sweet family and I think God especially blessed little Abby with a loving family!

There are so many gorgeous pictures. I am not sure what I am more in love with from this session. It’s a toss-up between the great light of this beautiful home, the awesomeness (is that even a word?) of my a-maz-ing new camera that I finally had the opportunity to use, or the adorable little lips and angelic face of Abby.

What do you think? Admit it…you love it, too!

Matthew

February 3, 2010

I debated for quite awhile before deciding on the title for this post. Matthew’s Heart? Matthew’s Smile? But, in the end, I just settled on the title of Matthew…because that is who this post is all about! A bit longer than my normal posts but such an encouraging story!

I remember the session like it was yesterday, but actually it was October 2007. I went to Matthew’s home for his newborn session. As is typical for my newborn sessions, Matthew was only a few days old. His big sister, Lainey, already my buddy from her previous sessions with me, met me at the door with a huge smile and proudly introduced me to her new little brother. Matthew’s mom, Angela, and I worked hard that morning to get some precious newborn pictures of Matthew. I remember how Angela and I kept commenting on the “cough” that Matthew had. I remember us talking it through…just two moms trying to figure out what might be going on with this helpless, tiny baby boy. What it a cold, reflux? Angela told me she was going to take him to the pediatrician again because her gut was telling her that something wasn’t right. Little did she know what was ahead for her little guy.

In Angela’s own words: ”Our doctor looked at him for about 3 minutes and sent us to the hospital for a chest x-ray.  The results came back and I received a phone call at 2:30 p.m.  He had an enlarged heart and we were to see a cardiologist first thing Tuesday morning.  After the longest night of our lives, we went to the cardiologist on Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m.  By 1:30 p.m. we were sent to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital where we were told that our son, at 4 1/2 weeks old, had Coarctation of the Aorta, which is a narrowing in his aorta.  He had a heart the size of his entire chest cavity; the cough I had been so concerned with was congestive heart failure; and his kidneys were failing.  The surgeon came in about 7:00 p.m. and told us Matthew was going to have heart surgery in the morning. ” Matthew had that surgery, but it was unsuccessful. They needed to do another surgery with a new cardiologist. “The only problem was she had only performed the surgery eight times and only once on an infant.  Again, my husband and I were in complete shock that we would have to have surgery again and that Matthew would be the ninth person to have this type of surgery.  We had faith in our surgeon and doctors that this was the right decision.  Matthew had surgery on December 28, 2007 and had a bypass graft attached on the right side of his aorta.  The graft should be large enough to take Matthew through most of, if not the rest of his life. We stayed in the hospital for almost three weeks.  While there we interacted with alot of employees of Le Bonheur, from cafeteria workers to heads of surgery.  Everyone of them showed genuine concern for Matthew and our family.  We are so blessed to have a wonderful place like Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital here in Memphis.  Their staff, nurses, doctors and surgeons took care of our family and gave us our son back.”

My friend and Matthew’s mom, Angela, has teamed up with some friends to plan an amazing event to help raise funds for LeBonheur. Angela contacted me about donating to their auction and I was so touched. I think this event sounds like so much fun. My daughter and I are going to attend the GenerosiTEA Party and make crafts, dress up, and, of course, have tea with my little princess. I have attached a link here,https://secure.lebonheur.org/generositea/register, for those of you who might be interested in attending. I would love to see many of your faces there to help support LeBonheur.

Wow! Can you imagine? The amazing thing is that Matthew’s story continues. He is now a little over 2 years old and is doing great! I have continued to have sessions with Matthew and so enjoyed watching him grow into one of the happiest children I have the privilege of photographing. I love this family!

So…Matthew’s Heart? Matthew’s Smile? To me, it is all about his smile. Thank you, God, for the gift of Matthew! Thank you for mother’s intuition. Thank you for a hospital full of doctors and nurses in our city who took such good care of him. Thank you for the honor of capturing moments like this…
