Fall 2010 Mini Sessions!

August 12, 2010

As I write this post, it is a ridiculously H.O.T. 116 heat index in Memphis, TN! I know it is hard to believe it, but the cooler weather of fall and the fun of the holidays are fast approaching us! I’ve been staying cool these last few days thinking about Christmas and planning out the 1:17 Photography yearly tradition and customer favorite… Mini Sessions!  I know you must think I am crazy tossing out holiday thoughts right now; however, I am determined to help you and I avoid the hectic times surrounding the holidays this year by planning ahead.

This year, we will be doing Mini Sessions in a new and exciting way. We will have 3 different days with 3 different locations from which to choose! On September 18th, our session will take place at my home in my backyard. My home, the spot of our traditional mini sessions, has a newly landscaped backyard that should be lovely in September for those last few warm days of the year . The first October location, on October 2nd,  is going to take place at Arlington Town Square, a new favorite location of mine and perfect for the rustic look. They’ve got some great red benches and rocking chairs that’d be soo cute on a Christmas card. And the last session, on October 23rd, will be in a local cotton field. I took my own children’s portraits for our 2009 Christmas card in a cotton field last year and just knew I needed to give this opportunity to my clients, too. Additionally, you have three different options to choose from for your session price. All three of these options include a $125 print credit! And, for the first time ever, some options come with a digital image for printing your own photographs as well as an option that includes our fabulous new press-printed card stock two-sided cards. Really exciting stuff!

How is a Mini Session different from a regular session? Well, it is only about 15-20 minutes and you receive approximately 10 fully edited custom proof images from which to choose. These sessions are perfect for those that don’t want a full session, want someone else to handle that dreaded “Christmas Card photo”, needs gifts for the grandparents, or just wants a few quick , simple, and lovely portraits of their favorite kiddo! However, with the Mini Session you still get the time and talent and expertise of the photographer (that’s me!), an online proof gallery and a slideshow set to music, access to our full line of products, and the 1:17 customer service that we pride ourselves on!

See below for all the exciting details! Need to schedule your session time? Simply contact jodie@117photography.com with your desired date and she’ll be happy to help you complete the process. Again, these sessions are always a customer favorite so if you see an idea that sounds like something you’d like, don’t delay!

Not sure which location you’d prefer? Check back tomorrow for a post with samples images from each location!

I’m so excited! Hope to see you this fall for a Mini Session!

Today’s the Day!

July 19, 2010

Fall scheduling starts today and we are so excited! Fall is such a beautiful time for photography. I love how in August and September I can still capture green grass, red cheeks from the heat, bare feet and suntanned skin. Then, just a few weeks later we move into the crisp days of fall and out comes the blue jeans and textured sweaters and changing of the leaves on the trees. And, there’s always a few smocked Christmas dresses and clothing thrown in for those holiday cards! I  know it is hard to think ahead when it is so warm and sunny, but the fall days are coming! And if your not in the mood for fall just yet, schedule a session in August or September and it’s plenty warm! I’d love to photograph your family this fall. Contact jodie@117photography.com and she’ll be happy to guide you through choosing your date and location for your very own fall session.

And, for a little inspiration, here’s a few of my favorites from last fall. Just a few as I could never include them all! Have a great day everyone!

And from August last year, a favorite! See, Fall covers all kinds of photographs! Schedule today!

Don’t you wish…

July 12, 2010

That these were yours? 🙂 I am sure you do! I love when the orders have come in and are ready for my customers to pick them up! It is so exciting…just like Christmas year round! Such fun. I love this photo selection paired with the beautiful Liv ‘n’ Lu frame. Bet they cannot wait to hang it on the wall!

Well, the great news is that you, too, can have some goodies like these ready to pickup soon! Big news! The updated calendar and session information has been posted on the website for the fall months. August through November are always our busiest months of the year. Head on over to www.117photography.com and take a look at the calendar page. You could be among the first to book your session and get your choice of dates. We will start taking requests a week from today, Monday July 19th. I’d love to work with you this fall so you can have some goodies for yourself! A picture of my heart…

March 22, 2010

Thirteen years ago on this date was the most exciting day in my life up to that point and still ranks as one of my favorite days ever! On March 22, 1997 I married my high school sweetheart and very best friend! Without him,  my life as it is today would not be. He is my biggest fan and without a doubt the one reason that 1:17 Photography even exists! About five years ago, I happened to mention to him one day that I would love to be a children’s photographer. And his response to me, “well, why aren’t you doing it then?” . I came up with 1,000 reasons why it would never work. Within a week, a brand new Nikon dSLR arrived on my doorstep…a gift from a very loving and supportive husband. From that day forward, he has been cheering me on and pushing me to do things that I never would have dreamed possible. God knew to put this incredible man in my life. I really don’t embrace change at all…in fact, I hate it. Jack, on the other hand, loves a challenge. We make a pretty great team! Even today, Jack is such a huge part of our business. He takes care of ALL the things I cannot stand that come along with a business such as accounting, bills, taxes, business licensing, bookkeeping, etc. Yuck! Without a doubt, I couldn’t continue to do what I do without him taking care of that side of things. I get to do all the fun part! 😉

You might wonder why I put this out here on the blog for the world to read and the reason is simple. The love we have for one another as well as the belief that he is a true gift from God is so important to what I do everyday in this business. My camera and photographs are an extension of my heart. With every click of the shutter, I am seeking to capture for my clients the love that they have for one another and their children. The love and joy that I have in my personal life is a part of every photograph I take. It has been 13 years of marriage, and I am happier than I ever thought possible back on that spring day in March. I am beyond grateful to the Lord for granting me with this amazing man with which to share this journey. Happy Anniversary, baby!

I am so excited to announce that for the first time ever we are offering Mini Sessions in the spring! This has been a much requested event over the years from my customers and we have listened. We have partnered with The Happy Heart children’s clothing store for this event. Details are below, but here’s a few highlights…

There will not be any sitting fees for these Mini Sessions; however, you are asked to have some fun shopping and to spend $30 at The Happy Heart to in order to schedule your session and secure your place. If you saw my last post, you will realize that there is no shortage of wonderful things to buy at the Happy Heart. There are children’s clothes for all ages as well as many great little gifts, frames, shoes…the list goes on! And, yes, gift certificates do count! All you need to do is make your purchase and pick your session time. The Happy Heart has the schedule at their store so you can take care of everything is one trip.

The sessions will take place around Happy Heart and in the wonderful Arlington Town Square, which just so happens to be my new favorite location to photograph. So many great little spots! All photographs taken from the shoot posted yesterday were in the square and inside Happy Heart.

Sessions will be limited and we expect them to fill quickly. Need directions to the store or have a question? Give the ladies at Happy Heart a call and they’ll be “happy” to help you, 901-867-3703.

And, finally, because what is a photo blog without photos? Here is the announcement about the Mini Sessions as well as some photographs of a few of  many treasures you can discover at The Happy Heart. I hope to see you on Saturday, March 27th!

But what should I wear? How do I choose clothing that will stand out in my photos? How do I coordinate siblings? These questions are some of the most frequently asked questions before a photo session. On Monday, I had the fun opportunity to do a photo shoot with The Happy Heart, a children’s boutique in Arlington Town Square. The purpose of the session was to photograph some of the new spring lines of clothing they carry in their fantastic and charming store. I have already known and loved Happy Heart for awhile; but, I fell in love all over again. The owners of the store, who happen to be close friends of my family, have FABULOUS tastes. I have over 100 pictures from this session that I’d love to share, but I just picked some of my favorites. The kids in the photo session were so great! Even with the cold temps outside and a photographer with hardly any voice to direct, they were such troopers and rocked the shoot! The clothing featured below from their store are all perfect examples of what works for a photo session. Lovely, simply lovely!!

Hint, hint!! Return tomorrow for a special announcement concerning our partnering with The Happy Heart for a special Spring Mini Session coming up later this month. Details tomorrow! I’m so excited. 🙂

And, my fellow mothers of boys, we all know how difficult it is to find cute clothing for boys, right? Never fear, my friend Laura, who owns the shop has two adorable boys of her own so she doesn’t leave them out!! Check out these rockin’ outfits…

Be sure and check out The Happy Heart this spring! I promise you will leave with both a happy heart and a cheerful face!

Spring has arrived!!

February 15, 2010

Well, not really; but, it is getting soo close! We had more beautiful snow today in Memphis; but, here at 1:17 Photography, we are thinking spring! Warm days, green grass, bare little feet, sundresses, tulips, azaleas, sunshine!!! They are all coming sooner than you think.

Beginnning today, we are taking scheduling requests for the coming months of March, April, May and June. If you are interested in scheduling a session, please email jodie@117photography.com and let her know you’d like to schedule a session. We would love the opportunity to work with you this spring or summer.

And, because a post is always better with pictures, a few of my favorites from last spring into early summer! Enjoy…and think warm thoughts!

Leaving a Legacy…

January 19, 2010

Today is the day! Something new, fun, different and a little scary! I’m starting a blog. Putting myself and my work out there for the world to view. I wanted to have a way to share my images from my photo sessions with my fabulous families more often. I tried to be good about updating my website often, but it never seemed to happen. I am hopeful that this blog will be a way for me to share images with you more frequently! The blog will be the place to find fresh images, exciting news, and even a few contests now and then. I’ll use it for a “sneak peak” of images from sessions. Should be fun! Be sure to come by and visit often…you’ll never know what you’ll find!

In conjunction with the new blog, comes another exciting event for 1:17 Photography. We’ve got a new look! I am super excited about our new branding. We’ve redesigned our website, logo, packaging, and business cards…can you tell I am excited? The fun, fresh, and colorful new look debuts today and I am so proud of the look we’ve created. The new look incorporates the meaning behind the name of our business, James 1:17, “Every good and perfect gift is from above.”, incorporating bright and colorful gifts within our brand. Our new tagline is ” …because every child is a gift”.

As I mentioned, the website is completly redesigned and has a fresh, colorful new face! When you go, be sure and turn up the sound and listen to the song I chose for the site this time. I agonized about this choice as it is so important. The song is by Nichole Nordeman and is entitled, “Legacy.” It is not a new song, but one I just heard for the first time the other day and it blew me away. My husband and I have this conversation all the time about how I am drawn to a song because of the words and he is drawn to a song because of the music. It is absolutely critical for the words to touch me on a song or it is lost on me. When I heard the words to this song, I knew immediately that I wanted to use it on my site. I love the message that it sends to us as parents. Are we doing enough? Are we leaving a legacy?  As I sit here and marvel at the path my business has taken me over the last four years, it is overwhelming. It has been such an adventure and full of such joy. I have made relationships that are a treasure to me. And I know it is all because of Him. As the song says, I am “a child of mercy and grace who blesses Your name unapologetically.”

And because a post is so much better with a picture, today I have to leave a picture of my beautiful little girl. Today is her 6th birthday and is such a joy in my life. She loves all things frilly and girly, loves her friends and family, has a sweet spirit that is amazing, and a gorgeous smile that melts my heart daily! Happy Birthday sweet girl!!
