Today is the first day that I’m starting to believe that Spring is coming!! It is finally starting to warm-up up outside and the sun, which it seems we haven’t seen in weeks, is shining brightly! It’s a beautiful day in Memphis, TN! I’m dreaming of warmer nights grilling out, fresh fruits and veggies from the farmer’s markets, colorful flowers, and soft, green grass beneath my feet. It’s time again to announce 1:17 Photography’s yearly tradition and customer favorite… Mini Sessions!

How is a Mini Session different from a regular session? Well, it lasts about 15 minutes and you receive approximately 10 fully edited custom images. These sessions are perfect for those that don’t want a full session, have a person in your family who just likes things done quick and efficiently, someone who needs gifts for the grandparents for Mother’s or Father’s Day, or just wants a few quick , simple, and lovely portraits of their favorite kiddo! And new this year, we are going digital! No shopping carts, no hard decisions to pick your favorites! You’ll just get them all on a disc and can use them to your liking. PLUS, if you prefer to print with my professional labs, you will receive 20% off any print or canvas item you purchase through 1:17 Photography from your Spring Mini Session.

See below for all the exciting details! Need to schedule your session time? Simply contact jodie@117photography.com with your desired date and she’ll be happy to help you complete the process. Again, these sessions are always a customer favorite so if you see an idea that sounds like something you’d like, don’t delay!

Due to the great feedback we received from last year’s Mini Sessions, we will once again offer a couple of different dates each at a different location!

The first location, planned for March 23rd, will take place in a local field that has wild grasses growing. I have a couple of different places in mind and plan to wait until the week of the sessions to pick which field we will use. I want to pick the one that looks the best at that time. Take a look at a few blog posts from some sessions that took place in these fields. I just LOVE the soft, simplistic feel that these photographs have-plus they are a decorator’s dream as their neutral colors will work great in any room. Love these photos in both color and black/white!

Our 2nd location this year is out in Germantown at Oaklawn Gardens! I am super excited about the opportunities at this location and think that there is something for everyone here. I have picked this date to be hopefully when the azaleas should be at their peak (hopefully-as this is based on the weather!). Combined this with the awesome textures of old benches as well as an old railroad car, old rustic buildings…it is a beautiful setting. Think lots of green grass and colorful spring azaleas! This will be a fabulous location that will truly feel and look like Spring!

Here’s a few links to the blogs that show the images from Oaklawn Gardens. All of these are from last year’s Mini Sessions at this same location at the same time of year:

Finally, the cost for this year’s session is $300.  I’m always like to change things up a bit, and this year I’m trying to make things a little easier on both of us for the Mini Sessions. With the purchase of a Mini Session this fall, it will cover your Sitting Fee, and you will receive the images from your session on a disc(approximately 10 images), professionally retouched with a print release giving you the opportunity to print and create as you wish. More and more often customers are asking for Digital Images, so here’s your chance! You won’t have to worry about shopping carts, ordering deadlines or any of those things. You’ll just get a DVD full of memories and beautiful images! Plus, for those who prefer to still order through me, you will recieve a 20% discount on all prints and canvases that you would like to order through 1:17 Photography using any image from your Spring Mini Session.

Be sure to look at the blog links above to get a better idea of what you can expect at each location. If you’d like to join us this year, don’t delay in scheduling. Sessions fill up fast! Can’t wait to see you!

I am a visual person! Always have been…guess that’s why photography is such a great fit for me. I’ve never been very good with imagining how something might look.  I like to touch it, see it, in person and then I know I’m good with a decision I have made. I assume that I am not the only person out there in the world that lives this way. 🙂 So, for now, 1:17 Photography is trying out something new and different for our sessions beginning this Fall…Proofbooks! The photo lab that I use has always offered these since I began working with them years ago. I always wondered if this might be something that my customers might enjoy. Basically, for an additional fee paid when you purchase your Sitting Fee, you will receive a spiral bound Proofbook of 4×6 prints. You will receive all proofs from your session that are shown in your online proof gallery. My goal is for your Proofbook to arrive at your home at approximately the same time that your proofs will go online for you to purchase through our online shopping cart.

As you can see from the photos below of a book I had done of my children’s beach photos this summer, this will be a great tool to use when making decisions about your purchases. The proofs are 4×6 in size, but have a 1/4″ border around the edge where it will be spiral bound. The prints also have a linen texture on them. This is to help protect me from any scans being done to the photos illegally…it basically makes the scan not very clear, but will not interfere with you being about to see the prints at all. This is the exact same linen texture I use on my prints that are placed on matboard.

I’m really excited to offer this to my customers. I think the little books will be very fun to show off your photos to your friends as well as having a keepsake of every photo from your session. I hope that you will take advantage of this new offer when you schedule your session with us!

If you look carefully on this next one, you can see the linen texture as well as the clear front cover.

Here’s the back cover:

***UPDATED 3/21/12: Due to the early blooming this year of Spring flowers, we’ve had to adjust the date for the April Mini Session at Oaklawn Garden. We will now be shooting out there on Sunday evening, March 25th as well as Friday evening, March 30. There are a few spots left if you have an interest!!***

You’ve been asking and the information is here!

I’m so excited to share with you the information for our Spring Mini Sessions for 2012. I tried to pick a couple of locations with completely different “looks” so that you have options in choosing. Additionally, these locations are ones that I hardly ever shoot, and the farmhouse is one where I’ve only shot once! I just LOVE that these Mini Sessions will give you an opportunity to have a session at a location that is different than the “normal”!  The locations are on a Friday evening in April at Oaklawn Gardens in Germantown, and a Friday evening in May at the farm and fields of a customer who is generously offering their property for our use. The April session at Oaklawn Gardens is hopefully when the azaleas should be at their peak (hopefully-as this is based on the weather!). Combined this with the awesome textures of old benches as well as an old railroad car, it is a beautiful setting. Think lots of green grass and colorful spring azeleas! The May session is located at a property that I fell in love with last year when I photographed there. The property offers an old rustic red barn, a tractor with lots of “character” and a great field full of wild grasses! I am posting example photos from both locations below.

See below for all the exciting details! Need to schedule your session time? Simply contact jodie@117photography.com with your desired date and she’ll be happy to help you complete the process. Again, these sessions are always a customer favorite so if you see an idea that sounds like something you’d like, don’t delay!

And now, to help inspire you, a few examples from past sessions for each location. First some from Oaklawn Gardens, the location of our April Mini Session. These photos are all quite old, but they still show the location well!

And, some from my session last year at  the location of our May Mini Session! Hope to see you at a Mini this spring! 🙂

It’s Coming!

February 27, 2012

If you are like me you have seen the first signs of Spring around town this week with the blooms of daffodils,Bradford pear trees, and even flip-flops on feet! 🙂 It’s coming…those photo sessions full of green grass, bright flowers, rosy red cheeks flushed with the heat of the day, bare feet, sundresses, and newborn babies basking in the warm sun! I’ve pulled out just a few of my favorites from Spring and Summer sessions from years past to inspire you!

Only a few Saturday spots remain but plenty of availibility still abounds! Get scheduled now before the weather warms up and everything turns green and everyone else starts wanting to get scheduled. A Christmas Update…

December 5, 2011

The blogs are complete. The boxes are packed complete with big bows! The Christmas cards have been designed. And all orders have been placed! 🙂

So, on that happy note, I wanted to give you a few studio updates:

1.Jodie and I will be taking our own little Christmas Vacation beginning tomorrow! We will be away from our emails and computers until January 3rd and enjoying some much needed time off with our sweet families who have been so very patient with us during this crazy busy season.

2. All emails and phone calls will be returned once we are “back in action” in early 2012. (Please note: If you call or email in regards to picking up an order that has already been placed, or if you are wanting to purchase a Gift Certificate, then I will get back to you. Additionally, if you are a mother of a previously scheduled Newborn Session for December or January and you need to speak with me concerning your session, I will return your email. All other inquiries will not be returned until January 3.)

2. Our calendar for December is closed. January and February are reserved for Newborn Sessions only. We have a couple of open spots at the very end of January, but the calendar is already full for sessions through January 22. If you are interested in scheduling a Newborn Session after January 22, send us an email and we will respond to you when we are back in the office beginning January 3rd.

3. Scheduling for outdoor sessions for Spring 2012 will begin in February. Details to come early next year!

Finally, this post would not be complete without me shouting out the loudest “THANK YOU!!” to all of my customers from 2011. Every year I think, it can’t get any better…and then it does! Every year that goes by, I enjoy this job more and more. My customers are my friends and I love you guys! I cannot thank you enough for your support of this little dream of mine that I get to live out day after day. What a joy and a privilege to call you customers and friends! God has been so very good, and I am beyond grateful.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above.” James 1:17 This verse is obviously very important to me, but never is it more relevant than at Christmas. God sent us His son. His most perfect gift. My prayer for each of you this Christmas is that you know HIS love and peace in your heart. Merry Christmas!!

And, because what’s a post without a photo? Here’s my two sweethearts with just a few from their recent shoot we did for the Torregrossa family Christmas Card! From our family to yours: Merry Christmas!!

Don’t you just love…

October 24, 2011

when you have an idea, a thought, dare I say “a dream” and everything just happens just the way you imagine? I sure do! We moved into our home over three years ago. My great room is a big room with a two-story ceiling. So, to make anything appear like it is the appropriate size, you have to think BIG! So, I’ve been wishing, hoping and dreaming about this particular wall for quite a while…

It was B.O.R.I.N.G!! I had been wanting to do a “real” family photo session for quite some time and knew that this wall would be perfect for displaying those portraits. Our family’s favorite place to be is the beach. Now, I have done photo sessions in the past for my family where I was the photographer, and well, let’s just say it didn’t work out so well. Somehow, me sprinting across the sand to jump into a pre-designated spot after pushing the self-timer button on my camera on the tripod just didn’t really get me the results for which I was looking. And, I’m just like the rest of you. I kept putting it off for probably the same reasons that you do. I didn’t know what to wear…the pressure! I wanted to loose 50 pounds…yeah, right! I wasn’t sure I wanted to spend the money…yeah, I think that way, too! 🙂 But, I finally made up my mind that enough was enough! I needed to have photos for my children in which I was actually in the photos and not just behind the camera. So, I went on a mission and found the phenomenal Patsy Brown and fell in love with her work! We had a wonderful time back in June at our session with Patsy which took place at both the beach as well as Fort Pickens in Pensacola. If you missed my sneak peek on her blog, you can find it here! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the talent Miss Patsy has. She is AWESOME!! Love! You must go check her out next time you are heading to the beach!!

So, then, I did another thing that my customers do. I received the photos and saw the amazing blog…and…wait for it…did NOTHING with them!!! Crazy, I know! I again found myself to be overwhelmed with all the amazing options I had. But, I did have an idea. I knew I wanted my amazingly talented business partners over at Liv ‘n’ Lu Frames to help me with my little project. I took quite awhile deciding on what colors, styles, sizes, etc. that I wanted to use. However, leave it to Connie and Adam over at Liv ‘n’ Lu. They were amazing in helping me come up with a phenonmal look to complete the photos that Patsy had taken. I could not be more thrilled with the results. If your photos are still in your box, please contact Liv ‘n’ Lu Frames and let them create something amazing for you!

Finally, my room is complete! I just love looking up and seeing my family every day! 🙂

You’ve been asking and the info has arrived! How is a Mini Session different from a regular session? Well, it is only about 15-20 minutes and you receive approximately 10 fully edited custom proof images from which to choose. Why choose a Mini? So many reasons…here’s a few that come to mind. Mother’s Day! Do a session just with Mom & kids. What about Senior Portraits? Not everyone wants a full hour’s worth of photos, so why not take advantage and still end up with at least 10 shots from which to choose? How long has it been since you and your husband/wife had photos taken of just the two of you? What about a session with Grandparents and Grandchildren? Did your daughter just loose her front two teeth and she is so cute you can’t stand it? 🙂 The possibilities are endless. However, with the Mini Session you still get the time and talent and expertise of the photographer (that’s me!), an online proof gallery and a slide-show set to music, access to our full line of products, and the 1:17 customer service that we pride ourselves on!

I’m so excited to share with you the information for our Spring Mini Sessions for 2011. I tried to pick a couple of locations with completely different “looks” so that you have options in choosing. The locations are a Saturday evening in April at Memorial Park and a Friday evening in May at Arlington Town Square. The April session at Memorial Park is when the azaleas should be at their peak (hopefully-as this is based on the weather!). Combine this with the awesome textures of the bridges and rocks there and it is a beautiful setting. Arlington Town Square has become one of my favorites locations to shoot because it offers such a broad variety of backgrounds from which to choose in such close proximity. Both of these locations are customer favorites.

And now, to help inspire you, a few favorites from past sessions for each location. First some from Memorial Park, the location of our April Mini Session.

And, some from Arlington Town Square, the location of our May Mini Session! Hope to see you at a Mini this spring! 🙂

Warm Thoughts for a Cold Day!

February 11, 2011

I know. It is cold. It has been snowy! My goodness, it was 13 degrees here at my home in Lakeland this morning! But, just remember that this is just a season and it won’t last forever! The older I get, the more I have come to appreciate the true seasons of weather we get to enjoy in Memphis. Not everyone gets to have that. I am learning to embrace it. And, that way, when the spring arrives, I appreciate it all the more. And, just to remind you that it’s not that far away, I wanted to leave you with a few of my favorite spring pictures from last year. All of these were taken at the end of March or very first week or so of April. That’s only about six weeks away and it’ll be here before we know it! And, as a plug (I’ve gotta add the plug!), don’t forget that we will begin scheduling for outdoor sessions taking place in March, April, May or June on February 22nd! If you are already on our mailing list, then you will automatically receive information about this next week. If you aren’t and would like to be added, send me your email to julie@117photography.com and I’ll make sure you get added! Happy Friday ya’ll! Here’s the taste of things to come!

It’s getting closer!!!

October 5, 2010

October is here! The gorgeous fall weather has finally arrived! Yay!!

Right on the heels and coming up quickly is the Holiday season. My favorite time of the year! I just added five new card designs and wanted to share them with you. If you’ve had a session in 2010 or have one coming up, these card options are available to you!

Aren’t they beautiful! Love them!

The Happy Heart! Fall 2010

August 21, 2010

I absolutely ADORE The Happy Heart Clothing shop in Arlington, TN! These ladies have simply amazing taste in children’s clothing. The clothes are absolutely P.E.R.F.E.C.T for a portrait session. Perfect! I had the fun opportunity to spend some time yesterday morning with these beautiful children who had the fun job of modeling these clothes for me so that I could shoot just a little of the examples of the Fall clothing line they now have in their store. This is my third time to get to do this for The Happy Heart and it is just the most fun time! The kids did such a fabulous job in the clothes that had to be hot for them because, let’s face it, it was 100 degrees yesterday and not quite the time yet for coats, hats and sweaters. 🙂

This is just a sampling of the fun we had yesterday. This is quite a long post but I had so many things I just LOVED that I couldn’t stop proofing them to share with all of you. Please, go and visit Happy Heart soon! You’ll be happy you did. And, my customers for this fall…note to you:  Wondering what to wear for your upcoming session?? See below! Visit Happy Heart and problem solved! See, now we are all happy! 🙂

Yes, these are my nieces, and, yes they are stinkin’ adorable! 🙂

My oldest niece! And, yes, she is simply beautiful, too! 🙂

A few for the upcoming Fall holidays…so fun!
